Air Quality
The San Luis Obispo Air Pollution Control District (APCD) collects ambient air quality data to monitor the progress of federal, state and local strategies designed to maintain both National and California Ambient Air Quality Standards (CAAQS).
The California air quality standard for ozone, designed to protect public health with an adequate margin for safety, is 0.09 parts per million (hourly average) and the Federal standard is 0.85 ppm for an eight hour period.
Remarks
The economy of San Luis Obispo County remains relatively stable. Approximately one-fourth of all residents work for some level of government. A major employer for the past 40 years in Atascadero is the State Hospital with over 2,000 employees.

The expanding retail community serves the needs of the resident with a full range of goods and services. Growing tourism in the area is expected to continue.
