Free Evening Performances of historical pageant- “The Colony”

“The Colony”, the musical, is an organic production like the colony of Atascadero itself. Written and produced by local talent, it depicts the early days of the town in two acts. The first act debuted in 1994; the second act was added and performed in 1995. Always intended to include an epilogue, the entire production will be performed publicly for the very first time as the crowning jewel of our Centennial celebration.
A cast of more than sixty local adults and children will dance, sing and act their way through a poignant and, at times, humorous account of the early days of Atascadero, beginning in the tent city of E.G. Lewis’ utopian vision.
Script and lyrics by Anet Carlin, founder of the Brickyard Theatre and co-founder of Great American Melodrama And Vaudeville and the Pacific Conservatory for the Performing Arts. Music and lyrics were written by Colleen Goulding Lord, a voice and piano instructor, she was also a Pioneer Player and a former board member of that same organization. The epilogue was written by Lon Allan. Musical arrangement is by Stephen Tosh with a score that includes original songs and standards of the day. John Lambie, our director is a veteran singer, actor, director and instructor with experience throughout Central and Southern California, including North County, Pacific Conservatory for the Performing Arts and Hollywood!
Performances will be free and presented in the Sunken Gardens utilizing the City’s historic Administration building as the backdrop on Saturday, July 20th and Sunday, July 21st at 6pm. Bring a picnic lunch to enjoy or purchase food and drink from vendors that will be set up nearby.
