5th District Supervisor, Debbie Arnold
I want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy Holiday Season. As we enjoy the holiday season, I am happy our winter weather has finally arrived. Having received several inches of rain throughout the County, peak fire season came to an official end. It has been an honor to Chair the County’s Fire Safe Council again this year. The men and women who participate on the council work hard all year to help plan fire prevention projects. Former County Fire Chief Dan Turner brings his invaluable expertise to the table to identify projects, write grants, and oversee the work of removing vegetation in strategic areas in order to avoid catastrophic wildfires in our county. The first heavy rains usually put an end to severe wildfire risk and allows our county and state fire crews a better chance of being home to enjoy the holidays with their families. I am grateful to all who contributed to keeping our county safe from wildfire this year.
As usual, Atascadero has so many great activities to help us all celebrate the holiday season. It is always such a beautiful site when the holiday lights come on at City Hall and turn the Sunken Gardens into a beautiful, festive site. The Winter Wonderland snow event is also a wonderful Atascadero tradition that brightens up the holiday season.
As 2019 comes to a close, I find myself looking back at all the achievements and growth that the County has seen this year. The San Luis Obispo County Regional Airport launched a direct flight to Dallas Ft. Worth and Las Vegas. For the first time the value of the ag commodities grown in this county surpassed $1 billion. And in June the Board adopted a $639.6 million budget for FY 2019-20. I am looking forward to the growth and achievements that 2020 will bring. Wishing you all a safe and Happy New Year!
It’s an honor to represent the 5th District.
