Businesses Participate Shop Local Program

The Atascadero Chamber of Commerce is offering small, local businesses and shoppers the opportunity to participate in a Shop Local Bonus program.  This was developed as part of the Chamber’s economic recovery response for the business community, and made possible by donations and support from residents. The Chamber will purchase up to five $20 gift cards from various Chamber members who qualify for the program. These gift cards will be then handed out to shoppers who submit $100 worth of receipts from participating businesses.

Since this program is intended to support small, local businesses that were directly impacted by COVID-19, the following business types do not meet the requirements for the program: corporations, convenience/drug stores; grocery stores; lodging; gas stations; and business chains that are not locally owned.

How The Program Works For Businesses


If you are a local retail, restaurant, fitness, or personal service business, the Chamber will purchase up to five $20 gift cards from you, which will be then distributed to qualified shoppers for the duration of the initiative.

To qualify, the business must:

  1. Be a member of the Atascadero Chamber of Commerce (or join the Chamber at a special rate – call our team for more information!)
  2. Be a local retail, restaurant, fitness, or personal service business.
  3. Have a physical location or storefront.
  4. Have the ability to sell and redeem gift cards/certificates.

If your business qualifies, you will be contacted by the Atascadero Chamber of Commerce with a confirmation to participate and asked to deliver your gift cards with an invoice for payment. From there, we request that participating businesses help the Chamber spread the word about the program.

Once we receive your Business Participation Form we will verify the information submitted and will follow up with you within 48hrs.

If your business was not confirmed then your business did not meet the outlined criteria.

To qualify, the business must:

The Chamber will contact you upon participation approval, initial gift card/certificate buy-in will be for a quantity of 5 gift cards/certificates, each with a $20 value loaded unto them ($100 total). This means that the Chamber will help your business generate a minimum of $600 in sales! You will need to invoice the Atascadero Chamber for the purchase of those gift cards/certificates and you will need to deliver them (virtually, in-person, or by mail) to the Atascadero Chamber.

Businesses may be eligible for additional buy-ins based on the availability of funds and gift card/certificate demand. If another round of gift card buy-in is needed from your business, then the Chamber will contact you.

If you do not offer gift cards, paper gift certificates or electronic gift certificates may be offered instead.

Businesses must fill out the Shop Local Bonus Business Participation form completely and meet the requirements outlined in the application to be accepted into the program for participation. The application can be found here → Participation Form .

How many times can I qualify for the promotion?

A receipt can only be used toward one redemption and may only be redeemed once.

Receipts are cumulative from the month that the purchases were made (only receipts for purchases made after 5/15/2021 will be considered for the month of May). Shipping/delivery fees and taxes do not contribute toward the $100 minimum total.

Receipts can be submitted to be considered to qualify for the promotion if the purchase is for a good that is made at a retail and/or restaurant from the qualifying list of participating businesses. The list of qualifying businesses can be found by scrolling down on the following form → List of Available Gift Cards. Purchases for services do not qualify – examples of those include corporations, convenience/drug stores; grocery stores; lodging; gas stations; and business chains that are not locally owned.

Other details include:

  • Businesses must have a physical location or storefront.
  • The following business types do not meet the requirements for receipt qualification: corporations, convenience/drug stores; grocery stores; lodging; gas stations; and business chains that are not locally owned.
  • Shipping/delivery fees, gratuity, and taxes do not contribute toward $100 minimum total.

Receipts for online purchases qualify only if they are associated with one of the approved businesses and otherwise meets purchase qualifications.

Once qualified, you will receive a confirmation email and your gift card will be available for you to pick-up from the Chamber of Commerce or mailed to you (mail may take 5-10 business days).
