Staying Healthy Through The Summer

By: Dr. Lisa Vasak from Dignity Health Urgent Care

Memorial Day has always been the unofficial start to summer and this year is no exception.  Despite the continued need for masks and social distancing, people are starting to get outside and enjoy the warmer weather.  What is important to remember is with increasing time in the sun comes the risk of sunburns and dehydration.  Both of these risks are definitely preventable with ongoing awareness of the need for sunscreen and continued rehydration with water.

  • Reapplying sunscreen throughout the day, and always after swimming or water sports is the only way to keep those painful and unhealthy sunburns away.
  • Always keep plenty of cold water available for drinking to replenish lost fluid from perspiration while being active in hot weather.

Please do not forget that COVID-19 is still with us, so wearing masks and social distancing will still need to be followed to keep the number of hospitalized COVID-19 patients as low as it is right now.

Stay Healthy and Happy Summer!
